Emergency Assistance

VAC provides emergency assistance to low income people when no other program is available to meet a need. These services are provided as long as funds are available and are subject to annual family limits and casework evaluations. Examples of these basic emergency services are:

  • Emergency food
  • Emergency lodging when shelters are full
  • School Supplies for students grades K-12
  • Minor auto repairs for employed persons
  • Special clothing needed for employment
  • Medical / Dental / Prescriptions
  • Baby formula to last until the first WIC appointment
  • Gasoline for medical appointments or the newly employed
  • CATS and paratransit tickets for new jobs or other emergencies
  • Miscellaneous items such as birth certificates, ID’s, diapers, car seats, hygiene items, or burials
